Personal: Mr. Ruiz is engaged in a general litigation practice. His clients include self-insureds, commercial interests and the general public. Mr. Ruiz handles matters for clients in State and Federal Court including commercial litigation, personal injury defense, premises liability claims, property damage claims, contract disputes, Section 1983 claims, Open Records Act and Open Meeting Act violation claims, claims under the Texas Tort Claims Act, workers’ compensation and DTPA litigation. He was a faculty member of San Antonio College where he taught contracts and real estate law. He enjoys exercising and spending time with his wife, Janet, and children, Linda, Joseph, and Michael.

Membership/Associations: Mr. Ruiz is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the San Antonio Bar Association. Mr. Ruiz has been a member of the State Bar of Texas Racial Diversity in the Profession Committee, f/k/a The Texas Opportunities for Minorities in the Profession Committee, for five years and served as its Chair for two years. The Racial Diversity in the Profession Committee addresses minority issues prevalent in Texas today, especially the recruitment, hiring and promotion of minority and women attorneys throughout the State by endorsing the Statement of Goals and other projects encouraging diversity in the work place. Locally, Mr. Ruiz is a member of the San Antonio Statement of Goals Committee which was organized to increase the hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys in majority law firms and corporations in San Antonio. He was one of the first participants of the Texas Minority Counsel Program (TMCP) Steering Committee and has been a member of that committee for nine years. The TMCP brings minority and women attorneys together with general counsels of corporations and government agencies to discuss the prospects of retaining legal services. Mr. Ruiz has participated as a moderator and a panelist speaker at conferences sponsored by the TMCP. Mr. Ruiz is currently a member of the Town of Hollywood Park Economic Development Committee. He was a participant in the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the MALDEF Leadership Programs.
